It’s that time of year again—time for spring cleaning. For some, it’s the best time of year, the time when you can bear down and give your home a satisfying clean. For others, it’s dreaded as the week or two where all your free time is spent scrubbing and vacuuming. To make this period of work go more easily for both kinds of people, we’ve put together a comprehensive spring cleaning checklist. We’ve put this in a recommended order so that cleaning one mess doesn’t create another one in an area you’ve already cleaned. For example, wiping the dust off of a counter may spread some dust to the floor, and you’ve already swept there then you’ll end up doing it again.

Dusting

Without fresh air breezing through your home, dust collects and settles on all of your surfaces. Take every surface you have and go over it with a duster and a damp cloth. A duster should pick up most dust, but anything left behind will be absorbed into a damp cloth.

Sweeping and mopping

Once the surfaces are rid of dust and dirt, now it’s your floor’s turn. Every area that isn’t carpeted needs a good sweeping and then mopping. Make sure to get into those easy to forget areas or else they’ll just build up with more and more debris.

Wiping nooks and crannies

With the amount of mud tracked into your home throughout the winter, dirt can find its way into surprising areas. Look at every corner and behind all furniture in your home for signs of dust and dirt. Cleaning this off is as simple as wiping it down with a damp rag.

Vacuuming

Until you can have your carpets professionally deep cleaned, run over them a few good times with your vacuum. Be sure to keep the windows open while you do this, as it may kick up dust and debris that has been stuck in there from the winter months.

Don’t be afraid to use the vacuuming attachments either. Instead of moving the whole couch, you can use the long-reach attachment to get underneath and clear out any dust bunnies. The same goes for drapes. You should have an attachment that allows you to get rid of any dust or hair clinging to your drapes. Upholstery, too, as long as it isn’t delicate enough to be damaged by a vacuum cleaner attachment.

Professional carpet cleaning

The final step in your spring cleaning should be to call in the heavy hitters, the professional carpet cleaners. With our industrial-grade equipment and years of experience, we can get down the roots of your carpet to get rid of anything that might be hiding in there. Dust, mites, pet hair, and more can be released into the air every time you vacuum or walk on your carpet, ruining your air quality and increasing the risk of health problems. To give your carpet a fresh look and get rid of lingering odors for the springtime, rely on the experts.
